A Passion for Accessible Cycling Tourism

The Beginning

Petr's journey into cycling tourism started during his university years at Charles University in Prague, where he combined two passions — cycling and geography. He didn't set out to become an expert. Instead, he was simply curious about how routes were built, why some paths worked better than others, and what made a cycling experience truly memorable.

After completing his degree in Geography and Tourism Management in 2008, he spent five years working directly with the Czech Cycling Association. Those years were transformative. He wasn't just reading about infrastructure — he was out there, cycling the routes, documenting conditions, talking to riders of all ages and abilities.

The Turning Point

In 2013, something clicked. Petr developed an accessibility audit methodology specifically for older cyclists — something that didn't really exist before. He wasn't approaching it as an abstract exercise. He was thinking about what his own parents would need. What would make them feel confident? Safe? Excited to ride again?

That work earned recognition from the European Cycling Federation, but more importantly, it clarified his mission. He realized that cycling tourism for retirees wasn't just a niche market — it was an underserved opportunity to help people experience their countries differently. To explore at their own pace. To enjoy routes that respected their experience and abilities.

Today

Since joining greystoneline s.r.o. in 2018, Petr's become known for meticulous research and genuine empathy. He's personally cycled over 8,000 kilometers across Czech routes — not for fun (though it is), but to verify every detail. Surface quality. Hill gradients. Where you can stop for water. Which towns have friendly cafés. The little things that make a ride enjoyable rather than exhausting.

His articles don't just list routes. They tell you what to expect, what to bring, where the views are worth the effort, and which stretches are genuinely relaxing. He writes with the same care he'd use recommending routes to his own family — because that's who he's writing for.

Why Petr's Approach Works

1

Personal Verification

Every route gets cycled personally. He doesn't recommend something without experiencing it firsthand — surfaces, hills, traffic, the works.

2

Retiree Perspective

Routes are assessed with mature cyclists in mind. What's manageable for someone in their 60s or 70s? What's actually enjoyable?

3

Practical Details

His guides include specifics — rest stop locations, water fountain availability, surface conditions, and realistic time estimates.

4

Honest Assessment

You'll know the challenging sections before you start. No surprises. Just clear information to help you plan better rides.
